SPIRIT ART

By Nancy Shewchuk

"Under Starlight"
I paint the colors of spirit!

I began drawing and painting as a child, like most all children.
I was the vice president of my art club in my senior year of high school.
At different times in my adult life I took art lessons in oils and pastels
and have sold some of my art in Sun Valley, Idaho and RI.

Being a 'seeker' on the spiritual path, I was advised through my
inspirational writings to try a different kind of painting.
My advice was to just paint, "COLOR!"

No specific forms or things ... just color!
So that is what I began to do.

After a painting is finished, I meditate on it.
When I "see" what the painting shows me,
I give it a name or title.

There are no duplicates - each painting is an original.

Custom "Spiral Energy" Paintings

Discovering the Spiral in My Art

Soon after I began painting "Spirit Art," allowing Spirit to move
through me in painting colors only, and in no particular style, I discovered
that I had unknowingly painted a vortex, or spiral pattern in a painting
I gave to a friend in Sweden for Christmas one year.
I was fascinated at this discovery!

Another painting, "Mexican Spiral," named after it was completed,
also looked like a crooked and somewhat square spiral.
Then I asked myself, "what is going on here?"
I wasn't consciously painting spirals!

I simply put 2 and 2 together and came to the conclusion that
Spirit wanted me to paint spirals! And so I began doing just that
and enjoying it immensely! I still don't know what the spiral will look like
in any given piece of art until it is completed, but I am always
pleasantly surprised and know that each spiral I paint has a
particular energy, that when one gazes at, will benefit in some way.

Because of this discovery, and because I love painting spirals so much,
I decided to offer the symbol of the spiral in Custom "Spiral Energy"
Paintings to the public, as it is my wish that all will benefit
from the energy of the symbol of the spiral.

make you happy, or you may want to empower your painting
by sharing your intentions with me, such as a spiral meant for
healing purposes, or as a birthday gift to yourself!

Or you may want to have a remembrance of a loved one no longer with
you, and so I would encourage you to share any intentions you may have
so that when I begin to paint I am "there with you" in Spirit, and the
energy empowered by you will come through me and appear in the
Spirit of the Art that is your "Spiral Energy" painting.

The Symbol of the Spiral

"The spiral is an archetypal symbol that represents cosmic force"
— Carl Jung

The spiral has a positive meaning for every culture that ascribes
a meaning to it. The spiral has found its way into the art of
almost all cultures, from ancient primitive rock carvings
on all continents to today's corporate logos.

Spirals show up in Celtic art, Native American petroglyphs,
Nazca earthworks, Arabic architecture, Japanese rock gardens,
Hindu spiritual texts, Australian aboriginal paintings, and African art.
No religious or political groups has claimed exclusive rights to the spiral.

Some meanings attributed to the spiral are, in ancient Britain,
associated with the feminine as the doorway to life.
It is associated with the cycle of time, the seasons,
cycle of birth, growth, death, and then rebirth.
Cycles of time and nature are the cycles of life.
The spiral is the symbol of the spiritual journey.
It stands for coming into being.

The spiral shows up in nature as hurricanes and tornadoes,
patterns of seeds in a sunflower, growing tips of ferns,
the shape of the nautilus shell, and as a helix.
The spiral is also the shape of the DNA molecule.

The spiral is an important symbol and has been
a meaningful one throughout time.

What does the symbol of the "spiral" mean to you,
and how would you like to benefit from it?
